ORIGINAL SOURCE
CHOOSES EXCEPTIONAL MOUNTAIN MAYHEM AMBASSADORS
Original Source has announced the finalists of this
year’s Original Source Mountain Mayhem Ambassador scheme.
Launched this year, the washing and bathing brand’s
scheme is designed to capture the spirit of the challenging
endurance race and celebrate the passion demonstrated by its
competitors, many of whom ride for charity as well as for their own
personal achievement.
Acknowledged as mountain biking at its toughest,
Original Source Mountain Mayhem prides itself on being a
challenging, fun, invigorating, adrenaline packed race that calls on
all the grit, determination, stamina and strength of mind of
competitors.
And it is a combination of these exceptional
qualities that has led to the selection of five teams of
inspirational cyclists as ambassadors for the event.
Nigel Wolstenholme, Senior Brand Manager at Original
Source, says: “Everyone that enters Original Source Mountain Mayhem
has a certain spirit that sets them apart from other mountain
bikers. But we wanted to identify those that had that little
something extra and that we felt illustrated the very best qualities
that reflect the ethos of the event itself - strength of character,
determination, courage and a positive attitude.”

Tom Pattinson-Smith from Bridport in Dorset is in the team ‘Bridport
Mudmunchers B’ and has been chosen as an ambassador because of his
indomitable will, courage and fighting spirit. Tom, 35 is battling
cancer, but has never let it stand in the way of his love of
cycling. Three years ago, when first diagnosed with cancer, Tom took
part in the event just two days after completing a punishing course
of chemotherapy. He is currently awaiting a stem cell transplant. He
says: “Cycling is my passion and I’m determined not to let my
illness stop me taking part this year. I’d really like to finish in
the top 30.”
Joe Whitaker, 48,
from Worksop in Nottinghamshire is in the team ‘Whitakers Signs/Santa Cruz,’
and has earned the title of Original Source Mountain Mayhem
Ambassador after his response to a horrific accident that crushed
both his thumbs. John underwent reconstructive surgery after losing
his thumbs in a workplace accident last year when concrete slabs
were dropped on his hands. Just a few months after the accident and
despite being in considerable pain, John took part in the event and
is signed up again this year. He says: “This year is my sixth and
although I’m still recovering from the surgery, I wouldn’t miss it
for the world.”

Army captain, Emily Peers, 28 years old and
from Fownhope near Hereford is in ‘Team Rubbalegs’ and has been
chosen as an Original Source Mountain Mayhem Ambassador because of
her competitiveness and initiative. Emily is so committed to taking
part in the Original Source Mountain Mayhem event, that despite
learning the army was sending her to Malta on a training exercise
the day of the event, she will still be doing her bit for her team
by running and swimming the distance of the mountain bike course
instead of cycling it. She says: “I feel guilty for not being there
to support my team and am determined not to miss out. Although I
won’t be able to actually cycle the race, I’ll do my bit in the best
way I can.”

Gareth Esplin, 33,
from Cowbridge in the Vale of Glamorgan, has been chosen as an
Original Source Mountain Mayhem Ambassador, because of his
commitment to his chosen charity. He is so inspired by the work of Tŷ Hafan, a children’s
hospice in Wales, that he is taking part in the event on behalf of
the hospice. He says: “Although I’ve been blessed with a beautiful,
healthy, happy baby girl, some families are not as lucky and I want
to do what I can to help them.”

Tony Smith, 45, Nick Hoy, 33, Ian Evans, 46 and
Darren Wisdom, 26, from
the team ‘Asleep in the
Saddle,’ work for a Croydon building company that carries out
refurbishment projects such as the London Eye and the new London
Aquarium and are riding for local charity, CHASE hospice care for
children. The charity provides a network of care and support to
families with children and young people not expected to reach their
19th birthday. Tony says: “As a company that takes on
extremely challenging building projects, we are used to pushing the
boundaries and we now feel we should be doing the same for our
chosen charity.”
All the ambassadors will receive Original Source
Mountain Mayhem jerseys, Original Source product and an official
event photograph, as well as support in raising awareness of their
chosen causes.
The event, which is in its 13th year,
takes place at Eastnor Castle, Deer Park in Ledbury, Herefordshire
from 18th – 20th June.

Team Rapide at OS Mountain Mayhem
Team Rapide includes three Engineers
from Aston Martin Product Engineering. Aston Martin Engineers
Jonathan Wilkes, Lee Williams and Maxwell Yates are joined by local
Fire-fighter, Marcus Gunn. At Aston Martin, we have a healthy
cycling community. Many of our colleagues spend their spare time
cycling the roads and tracks of Warwickshire. With this strong
interest in social cycling, and Aston Martins relationship with the
Le Mans 24 hour series, it seemed like a great idea to combine the
two. So last year, we dipped our toes in the water of 24 hour
Mountain Bike racing. We have lost our fastest rider from last
year, to road racing - so we have drafted in our good friend Marcus,
for this years Mayhem.
We are excited about taking part in
the Original Source Mountain Mayhem 2010, the camaraderie and the
festival atmosphere makes it a weekend to remember. We don't expect
to emulate our cars by getting a podium finish, but are looking
forward to meeting and riding with many like minded people. Please
come and say hello, we should be easy to find, as we will have an
Aston Martin Rapide, our latest sports car, in front of our tent.
During the design of this car, I was keen to ensure, you can fit a
bike in the back of the Rapide.
